Theory of filter-induced modulation instability in driven passive optical resonators

چکیده
We present the theory of modulation instability induced by spectrally dependent losses (optical filters) in passive driven nonlinear fiber ring resonators. Starting from an Ikeda map description propagation equation and boundary conditions, we derive a mean-field model---a generalized Lugiato-Lefever equation---which reproduces with great accuracy predictions map. The effects on gain comb generation different control parameters such as dispersion, cavity detuning, filter spectral position, bandwidth are discussed.

Novel Design of Optical Channel Drop Filter Based on Photonic Crystal Ring Resonators
In this paper, a new design of optical channel drop filter based on two- dimensional photonic crystal ring resonators with triangular lattice is proposed. The rods of this structure is silicon with the refractive index 3.46 and the surrounding environment is air with the refractive index of 1.The widest photonic band gap obtained is for filling ratio of r/a = 0.2. The filter’s transmission spec...

Photonic crystal ring resonators (PCRRs) are traditional structures fordesigning optical channel drop filters. In this paper, Photonic crystal channel drop filter(CDFs) with a new configuration of ring resonator is presented. The structure is made ofa square lattice of silicon rods with the refractive index nsi=3. 4 which are perforated inair with refractive index nair=1. Calculations of band s...
متن کاملDiffusion-induced bistability of driven nanomechanical resonators.
We study nanomechanical resonators with frequency fluctuations due to diffusion of absorbed particles. The diffusion depends on the vibration amplitude through inertial effect. We find that, if the diffusion coefficient D is sufficiently large, the resonator response to periodic driving displays bistability. The lifetime of the coexisting vibrational states exponentially increases with increasi...
متن کاملCoupling Coefficients of Resonators in Microwave Filter Theory
This paper is an overview of important concepts and formulas involved in the application of coupling coefficients of microwave resonators for the design of bandpass filters with a particular emphasis on the frequency dispersion of coupling coefficients. The presumptions and formulas are classified into accurate, approximate, and erroneous ones.
متن کاملImproved optical filter responses in cascaded InGaAsP/InP microdisk resonators
Waveguide-coupled microdisk and microring resonators as optical filters have been of great interest due to their high wavelength selectivity and ultra-compact sizes [1 – 4]. Recently, higher-order filters based on microring resonators with improved performances have been demonstrated in compound glass and AlGaAs/GaAs material systems [3, 4]. These higher-order filters show steeper rolloffs and ...
